Aydın Memecik Zeytini constitutes 17.6% of Turkey's total table olive production, and our province alone produces this amount. Of the olives produced in the Aydın province, 47% belong to the Memecik variety.
The olive is described in the holy book as a "miracle that protects human health with its nutritional value." It is highly valuable for human health due to its antioxidant and nutritional properties. The Memecik olive contains four times more polyphenols than other olive varieties, and these polyphenols are very beneficial for human health. The amounts of phenolic compounds such as luteolin-7-glucoside, rutin, trans-cinnamic acid, cyanidin-3-glucoside, and cyanidin-3-rutinoside are high in Aydın Memecik Zeytini. It is also very rich in α-tocopherol (Vitamin E), which has anti-cancer properties, essentially making it medicinal in nature.
Its quality attributes, combined with the geographical features of the Aydın province, make it a unique value for all of Turkey.
The region's climate characteristics, soil structure, and appropriate pH level, along with the rich vegetation of the mountains surrounding the area, give Aydın Memecik Zeytini its distinct properties. The soil irrigated by the Menderes River and the mountainous areas surrounding the northern and southern parts of the province are rich in phosphorus and microelements. Additionally, the north-east wind (poyraz) blowing in the morning and the afternoon west wind (imbat) contribute to an increase in phenolic compounds in the product. The amounts of phenolic compounds such as luteolin-7-glucoside, rutin, trans-cinnamic acid, cyanidin-3-glucoside, and cyanidin-3-rutinoside are high in Aydın Memecik Zeytini.
